My name is Gosia Baran, and I am the founder of Helping Hands Commercial Cleaning. In 1999, I moved to Chicago from Poland after falling in love with the United States and its opportunities, and with my now husband, Tony.
In 2000, I got pregnant while working full time at a law firm in downtown Chicago. Finding the time and energy to keep a clean home was out of the question, so we hired a cleaning service. The experience was disappointing—unprofessional staff, poor training, and subpar results. I had to provide all the products and train the cleaner myself.
Six weeks after my son was born, I returned to work and found myself spending weekends cleaning instead of enjoying time with my baby. It pained me that I barely had time to spend with him.
Then 9/11 happened and I got laid off from the law firm. That was the moment Helping Hands was born. I promised myself I would create a high-standard cleaning company that delivers quality service, peace of mind, and opportunities for immigrants like myself.
Today, we employ those who come to this country for a better life. We properly train them, provide a career ladder to grow within the company, and support them with resources to achieve their life goals. I am grateful to all of our customers—it is because of them I am able to create a workplace for those seeking opportunities.
Being involved with ISSA/ARCSI helps me grow as a leader and helps not only my employees grow but other businesses as well.

My name is Gosia Baran, and I am the founder of Helping Hands Commercial Cleaning. After being laid off following 9/11, I made a decision: build the cleaning company I wished had existed — one with trained employees, real accountability, and standards that actually hold.
More than 20 years later, Helping Hands serves large commercial facilities across Chicagoland. We hire and train our people directly, invest in their growth, and show up with the same standard every single day.
Proud member of ISSA/ARCSI. Woman-owned since 2001.

Learn more about who we are, what we stand for, and why businesses across Chicagoland trust us. We’ve compiled answers to the most common questions from businesses across DuPage and Cook County

Since 2001, we’ve built our reputation on accountability, not empty promises. Unlike franchise cleaning companies that rely on subcontractors, we employ trained staff who are background-checked, uniformed, and supervised. Every service includes weekly supervisor inspections, photo documentation, and direct communication with ownership. You’ll never get the runaround or wait days for a callback. We’re locally owned, woman-owned, and committed to delivering the same high standards at every facility we serve across DuPage and Cook County.
Helping Hands Commercial Cleaning was founded in 2001 by Gosia Baran, who immigrated to Chicago from Poland and saw a need for more reliable, health-focused commercial cleaning. Over the past 25 years, we’ve grown to serve 1,250+ facilities across Chicagoland, including offices, medical practices, schools, industrial buildings, warehouses, and municipal facilities. Our team has expanded to over 120 employees, but we’ve never lost sight of our original mission: delivering consistent quality and peace of mind to every client.
Inspection-driven cleaning means we don’t just clean and leave—we verify our work. Every account receives weekly supervisor inspections using detailed checklists, photo documentation, and quality scorecards. This system ensures accountability and consistency that most cleaning companies don’t offer. For facility managers, it means fewer complaints, documented proof of service, and a direct escalation path when something needs attention. It’s the difference between hoping your cleaning gets done right and knowing it does.
We are 100% independently owned and operated—not a franchise. That means when you call us, you’re speaking directly with our team and ownership, not a call center or a franchise middleman. We have full control over hiring, training, quality standards, and customer service. This allows us to respond faster, customize solutions to your needs, and maintain the high level of accountability that franchise models simply can’t match. Our reputation is built on every job we do, so we take it seriously.
We are proud partners with Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit organization that provides free house cleaning services to individuals battling cancer. Through this partnership, we help alleviate the physical burden of maintaining a home during treatment, allowing cancer patients and their families to focus on health and healing. It’s one of the ways we give back to the Chicagoland community that has supported us for over two decades. If you know someone who could benefit from this service, please reach out to us.
